new york has *new york new york* and *moon river*. paris has a whole generation of chansons to praise it and to curse it. what is london's song? my boyfriend unhelpfully suggests *london bridge is burning down*. i remember that old 70s singer-songwriter number about the gloomy and decayed *streets of london* (but how can you tell me, your lo-ho-nly...). neither are on a par with the output of sinatra or piaf. even liverpool has been given a musical identity by the beatles.does no-one want to sing for london?

marx ist wieder in. der gute alte ostberliner dietz-verlag verzeichnet gerade postsozialistische rekordzahlen fuer den verkauf des kapitals (in 3 baenden). an den unis und, wer haette das gedacht, im fernsehen wird die marxsche politische oekonomie diskutiert. hatte marx denn am ende recht? oder geht's den leuten gerade schlecht, und man sucht sein heil in einem altbekannten erloeser? fest steht: ehe ich mich durch 3 fette, schwerverstaendliche baende von marx wuehle, die eher analysen statt vorschlaege bieten, finde ich eine loesung der aktuellen finanzkrise bei einem anderen linken. lenin. der hatte ganz bestimmt recht, als er vor 100 jahren sagte:vertrauen ist gut, kontrolle ist besser!

carla bruni und angela merkel sitzen zusammen vor einem gasthaus auf der bierzeltgarnitur. ploetzlich springt carla auf und stuerzt sich mit vollem koerpereinsatz auf frau merkel. die wird unter bruni und einer horde von helfern begraben, nur ihre prinz-eisenherz-frisur ist noch zu sehen. irgendwo ist eine kamera aufgebaut, jemand schreit *cut*.ich wache schweissgebadet auf.

meltdown. if any country should use this word sparingly, it's a country surrounded by water. such as iceland. which is, after all, surrounded and populated by icebergs. or great britain! yet *financial meltdown* must be the most overused media phrase of the moment. along with collapse, turmoil, free fall... i propose a new one:apocalypse dow. (*i love the smell of bankruptcy in the morning*)
