new york has *new york new york* and *moon river*. paris has a whole generation of chansons to praise it and to curse it. what is london's song? my boyfriend unhelpfully suggests *london bridge is burning down*. i remember that old 70s singer-songwriter number about the gloomy and decayed *streets of london* (but how can you tell me, your lo-ho-nly...). neither are on a par with the output of sinatra or piaf.
even liverpool has been given a musical identity by the beatles.
does no-one want to sing for london?
