the kings road

chelsea on a saturday afternoon.
londoners know that chelsea was once the centre of swinging london, as they call the few years of fun in recent london history. miniskirts, free love, the stones stoned and all that. since then the world has moved on, but chelsea hasn't. normal people go there because it is mentioned in the guide books, and because it is a zoo of posers and has-beens. it is particularly popular with the french. the hidden side streets though are full of charming secrets. i recommend it.
i was walking down the kings road with my new goldfrapp cd in my bag, and i needed the loo. so i called in to starbucks. on my way upstairs to the ladies a waiter threw himself between me and the bathroom door. sorry, only for customers. surprised, i told the guy i was a toilet tester. for time-out magazine. well, i was put on the spot! i waved my little notebook in front of his nose for extra effect. he wavered, and finally he let me go about my business. thank you starbucks on the kings road.
i don't see my future career as a loo tester, but this one gets 8 out of 10 for sensual experience.
there is a great little french market on saturdays, where i bought some wonderfully tasty pain de campagne. tres bon.
celebs spotted: probably lots from the d-list, but i wouldn't know.

song of the day: ride on a white horse
